28 letters to John Mitford, 1855-1858.

Collection of 28 letters from William Cotton to John Mitford, which primarily concern Cotton's research on the life and professional achievements of Sir Joshua Reynolds. He invites Mitford to write a piece for his catalogue of the Althorp collection; asks how Mitford is progressing with his study of Joshua Reynolds' correspondence and diary; and comments on Reynolds' supposed "love letters." Many of the letters also mention his own publication on Reynolds, including references to reviews of his work.
